Camping & Camping Food

NOTES:

China Camp, site 4, slightly elevated, trees around, but not covering. Good for seeing the  sky. Sites 7,6,8 are under the trees next to the stream. Upper sites 27-30 ish. Nice, but seemed more like a park. And also has a view of the parking lot, but also the bay. For my tastes site 4 is the ideal. Remote, elevated, and not completely under the trees. Party site seems to be 7,6, 8.

Buy firewood from campsite, cheaper than Safeway.
Bring kindling

Consider buying stove.

FOOD:
Udon - packaged, awesome for a cold night.
Kim chee fried rice with portugeses sausage - also a keeper
Salmon on a plank - very nice
Roasting potatoes overnight for hash in the morning
Coffee- boil water, throw grounds in, then strain.
Strainer - good for coffee and udon noodles
Plastic container for dry goods - repeat. Good for keeping things dry, but also the top was good for a tray and getting the fire going.

FOOD, Next time:
- more rice. For 2 days, maybe 6 cups, the Japanese cups. For dinner, lunch and breakfast.
- edamame. Wholefoods and Safeway in Marin don't have them, although the trader joes probably did. Technically Safeway did but it was $1.50 for a handful, and that's just wrong.
- pineapple pancakes, or roasted pineapple with fish sauce, coconut milk.

CLOTHING:
- Baselayers, oh hello.
- consider bringing the baklava, or whatever it's called
- Polar fleece camisole - repeat
- SFOCC swim jacket - repeat
- sleeping bag - 20 degrees - repeat
- bike bag - repeat
- small cooler- cabinets are pretty small
- lock - repeat

  • North Bay Inn - San Rafael, 855 East Francisco Blvd,  415-456-8620 , [51]. B&B.  edit
  • Panama Restaurant and Inn, San Rafael, CA. Actually, the Panama is NOT a B & B. It is a small, quaint, nice hotel, with unusual and uniquely decorated theme rooms (not corny). The restaurant is likewise unusual and pleasing, and yes, the jazz is a nice addition. The whole affair is located in a quiet district, near the center of town. Rates include a very nice (no fruit loops) continental breakfast. If you like eclectic, not the same-as-usual experiences, this is the place.
